To the John Jay College Community:

The first student activity fee increase took place in 1982. The second increase of the student activity fee was in 1988. The third student activity fee has finally increased in 2013, pending Board of Trustee approval.

The student activity fee pays for many extra and co-curricular activities dedicated to the social, professional, and cultural enhancement of all students. In the past twenty-five years, the student population has grown, the cost of everything has risen exponentially, and there are programs that exist today that need funding that did not exist in 1988.

The increase in the student activity fee will provide funding for: an enhanced commencement, paid student positions in peer mentoring programs, opportunities for study aboard and conferences for undergraduate and graduate students, professional development programs, expansion of media services on campus, and so much more.

John Jay College had one of the lowest student activity fees across CUNY. However, that was changed on March 14, 2013. March 14 is not a day where history has been changed but a day where our future has a new beginning.

On behalf of Student Council 2012-2013, thank you to all those who have helped us change history. We could not have made such a big difference without you.

Students Ending Academic Probation Status

While on academic probation a student may generally register for no more than 6 credits. During the first semester that a student is no longer on academic probation, that student may register for no more than 12 credits.

Change of Grades after final grades are filed

Grades, once submitted to the Registrar, shall not be changed unless there has been a computational error resulting in an incorrect grade having been submitted. Faculty requests for a change in a final grade shall be submitted to the department chair and, if approved submitted to the chair to the Dean of Undergraduate Studies. If the Dean of Undergraduate Studies approves the grade change request because a computational error was made, the Dean shall forward the change of grade request to the Registrar. Given this policy, faculty shall not permit students to submit supplemental/extra-credit work in attempt to try to improve their final course grade after grades have been submitted to the Registrar.

Students who receive the grade of F, W, WU, or FIN – or any combination of these grades two times for the same course shall receive notice from the Registrar by email of this policy at which time the students shall also be advised to obtain academic counseling.
